Get iHopOn on your phone

Last updated: September 28, 2026

iHopOn works as an app on your phone. There's nothing to download from an app store: you add it from your browser, and it opens full screen from its own icon on your home screen.

Once it's there, you can turn on notifications and get new matches, messages and ride updates on your phone, and switch off the emails if you'd rather.

On Android

  1. Open ihopon.com in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Tap the menu (⋮) at the top right.
  3. Tap "Add to Home screen" or "Install app", then "Install".
  4. Open iHopOn from its new icon on your home screen.

If you added iHopOn before September 28, 2026 and its icon is a black triangle, remove it and add it again to get the new icon.

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open ihopon.com in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen", then "Add".
  4. Open iHopOn from its new icon on your Home Screen.

On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work when you open iHopOn from its Home Screen icon, and they need iOS 16.4 or later. You can check your version under Settings → General → About.

Turn on notifications

  1. In the iHopOn app, tap You, then Notification settings.
  2. Under "This device", tap "Enable push on this device".
  3. When your phone asks, tap Allow.
  4. Tap "Send a test notification". It should arrive within a few seconds.

Each phone or computer is turned on separately, so repeat this on any other device where you want notifications.

Get notifications in the app instead of by email

Once the test notification has arrived, you can stop the emails:

  1. In Notification settings, under Channels, untick "Email" and leave "Push notifications" ticked.
  2. Tap "Save preferences".

New matches, connection requests, messages, pod updates and day-board rides then come to your phone.

A notification on your phone only says something general, like "Someone wants to carpool with you", so nothing private shows on your lock screen. Open iHopOn to see who and when.

Codes you ask for, password resets and messages about your own account still come by email, because they have to reach you even when you can't sign in.

Your quiet hours apply to phone notifications too.

If notifications don't arrive

  • It says notifications are blocked: allow them for iHopOn in your phone's settings. On Android, press and hold the iHopOn icon, tap App info, then Notifications. On iPhone, go to Settings → Notifications → iHopOn.
  • It says this browser doesn't support push notifications: on iPhone or iPad, open iHopOn from its Home Screen icon rather than from Safari.
  • Check that Do Not Disturb, a Focus mode or battery saver isn't holding them back.
  • You opened the link from Teams, Outlook, Facebook or another app: those use a built-in browser that can't install iHopOn or turn on notifications. Use that app's menu to open the page in Chrome or Safari, then start again.
  • You use Brave: it blocks notifications until you turn on "Use Google services for push messaging" in its privacy settings. Then try again.
  • Still not working? Turn email back on so you don't miss anything, and write to support@ihopon.com.
